A native of Yuba City, CA, catcher Max Robert Stassi was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 amateur draft by Oakland.

While he was still in the minors in 2013, the A's traded Max, along with Chris Carter and Brad Peacock, to Houston for Jed Lowrie and Fernando Rodriguez. He made his major league debut for the Astros on August 20th of that year. Stassi got his first major-league RBI the next day, when he took a bases-loaded plunk to the face, and hit his first major-league homer on September 19, 2015.

A backup from 2013-19, Stassi hit .218 with 12 homers over 163 games. He was dealt to the Angels at the 2019 trade deadline for two minor leaguers and hit .071 over 20 games there. Stassi also pitched a third of an inning while an Astro in 2019.
