A former first round pick of Tampa Bay in 2013, the tall righthander from St. Louis was signed by Houston during the winter of 2021 as a bullpen option. The righthander has a 2-7 career mark with a 4.00 ERA in 152 appearances during the 2017-20 seasons with the Rays and Marlins before joining the Astros.

Although a third of his appearances were starts, he was used by Tampa as an "opener" in their "bullpen games" and averaged just over two innings per start. He has notched 210 strikeouts in just 173 innings pitched over his big league career.
