A fleet center fielder, the Indiana native was acquired from Atlanta in the 2011 trade of Michael Bourn. Although he provided speed and solid center field defense, Schafer struck out frequently, was beset by mental lapses, and was placed on waivers after the 2012 season.

While an Astro, he batted .220 with five homers and 34 steals. He completed his career with the Braves and Twins. Overall, he hit .228 with 12 homers and 103 steals over six seasons.
