The Boston native was a former top draft choice of the Texas Rangers but he was traded to the Dodgers who dealt him to the Astros for Ed Vosberg in 1989. As a reserve outfield, Ortiz spent his only two seasons in the majors, batting .275 with two homers in 77 games (1990-1991).
