A first-round pick of the Astros in 1989, Jones went on to have a long career as a reliever and sometime closer for 16 seasons. In four years with Houston, he was 18-12 with 39 saves and a 3.27 ERA before he was dealt to Detroit after the 1996 campaign in the first of several trades between the two teams during that period.

Jones spent five years with the Tigers before hooking up with the Twins, Rockies, Red Sox, Reds, Phillies and Marlins. He then returned to Detroit for three final seasons. For his entire career, he compiled a 58-63 record with 319 saves and a 3.97 ERA.

A frequent blogger and columnist during his playing days, Jones might soon have a career as a commentator or sportswriter in his future.
