An All-Star performer with the Brewers in 2013 and 2014, Gómez was acquired by the Astros at the 2015 trade deadline. The Gold Glove outfielder came to Houston with a reputation for being a hard-nosed player with a knack for getting under the skin of his opponents. Although he was slowed by injuries over the final two months of the season, Gómez came through in several clutch situations, helping the Astros reach the playoffs.

With a lackluster .210 showing at the plate and some glaring defensive gaffes in centerfield in 2016, the Astros designated Gómez for assignment on August 10th of that year, and gave him his outright release on August 18th.

The Dominican extended his career with stints for the Rangers, Rays and Mets but was released in July of 2019 after batting .198 and was not claimed. For his career, Gómez batted .252 with 145 homers, 268 steals and a .724 OPS.
