A veteran lefthander with the Pirates, Giants and Reds, Gibbon made his final big league stop in Houston in 1972. He entered nine games and tossed 7-1/3rd innings with no record and a 9.82 ERA for the Astros.

Overall, the Mississippi native posted a 61-65 record with 32 saves and a 3.52 ERA. He was a member of the 1960 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates.

Gibbon passed away at the age of 83 on February 20, 2019 in Newton, MS.
