Born in Hollywood, FL, Mike Fiers (pron: "Fires") was a low-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers who worked his way to the majors in 2011.

Splitting time between starting and the bullpen, Fiers was traded to Houston at the 2015 deadline along with outfielder Carlos Gomez for a quartet of prospects that included reliever Josh Hader.

In his third start as an Astro, Fiers tossed a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-0, on August 21st. Over 2-1/2 seasons in Houston, Fiers posted a 21-19 record with a 4.59 ERA.

Granted free agency after 2017, the righthander signed with Detroit and was dealt in mid-season to Oakland. He tossed his second career no-hitter on May 7, 2019 against the Reds. Oddly, both no-nos came at home in interleague games.

Through 2019, Fiers has compiled a 69-59 record with a 4.02 ERA.

After the 2019 campaign, he set off a media firestorm contending that the 2017 Astros stole signs using a system of real-time monitoring of the center-field camera and banging a garbage can to inform batters that an off-speed pitch was imminent.
