A 25th-round pick by the White Sox in 2011, the Cal State-Fullerton product was the player to be named later in the 2012 deal that sent Brett Myers to Chicago. Affectionately known by his teammates as "The Dragon", Devenski spent five seasons in the minors before getting the call to Houston in 2016 after finding more life in his fastball.

Finishing fourth in the AL Rookie of the Year vote that year, Devenski was named to the All-Star team in 2017 but has struggled staying on the roster the following two seasons. Through 2019, he has posted a 16-15 record with a 3.21 ERA and seven saves. He is expected to be a part of Houston's bullpen in 2020.
