The veteran righthander came to Houston in August of 2017, posting a 6.43 ERA in nine relief appearances that included a pair of saves. His inconsistency kept Clippard off the postseason roster and the former two-time All-Star left in the offseason for Toronto in free agency.

Through 2019, Clippard has thrown for the Yankees, Nationals, A's, Mets, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Blue Jays and Indians, as well as Houston, over a 13-year career. He has compiled a 53-46 record with a 3.14 ERA and 68 saves during that time.
