A veteran catcher, Chirinos begged the Astros to sign him before the 2019 season and the free agent wound up the starting catcher for the eventual American League champions. Fellow Venezuelan José Altuve suggested the Astros sign him. He appeared in a career-high 114 games for Houston, batting .238 with 17 homers and 58 RBIs. He added three more homers in the postseason, including two during the World Series.

Not reaching the majors until he was 27 with Tampa Bay, Chirinos found a home with the Rangers for six years where he was often a thorn in Houston's side. Through 2019, he has compiled a .234 career average with 85 homers and 262 RBIs.
