An original Colt .45 in 1962, Busby distinguished himself as a speedy outfielder in the early 1950s.

A standout quarterback for TCU's 1945 Cotton Bowl team, Busby bounced around baseball's minor leagues before coming up with the White Sox late in 1950 where he was selected as an All-Star in 1951. Afterward, he was traded to the Washington Senators, where he would have his most productive years.

In 1956 with Cleveland, he became the fourth American Leaguer to hit grand slams in consecutive games.

After stints with Baltimore (1957) and Boston (1959), he ended his career in Houston after 1962.

He would later coach under his old skipper Paul Richards with the Orioles, Colt .45s, Braves, and White Sox.

He died on July 8, 1996 from a heart attack in Augusta, Georgia.
