Houston's first draft choice of 2008 (eighth overall), the catcher from Stanford was called up in June of 2010 for his first big league action, hitting a single in his first at bat and belting an upper-deck homer in just his third game. However, he cooled off to a .205 average in his first season. Jason sat out the 2011 season with a knee injury but returned in 2012 to bat .257 in 66 games.

Mar 2, 2011 - Jason Castro tears up his knee trying to avoid a tag while running to first base. Expected to be the starting catcher, the former first-rounder later has foot surgery after rehabbing late in the year.

Apr 19, 2012 - The Astros tie a record with three triples in one inning on their way to an 11-4 blowout in Washington. Jose Altuve, Brian Bogusevic and Jason Castro launch three-baggers in the first as part of a five-run outburst then Houston adds five more runs in the sixth, including a two-run single from Bud Norris and a two-run double by Altuve. Bogesvic and Castro lead the 17-hit attack with three hits each.
