Astros in the Sky
Born: Jan 23, 1936
Principally a reliever with the Milwaukee Braves for three seasons, the Massachusetts native came to Houston on the recommendation of former teammate Don McMahon. He was dealt to the Colt .45s after the 1962 season for Norm Larker. Although his record for three seasons in Houston was 21-34 with a 3.86 ERA, "Notty" went into the record books with the franchise's first no-hitter, a 4-1 gem over the Phillies in 1963.
Nottebart was claimed by the Reds in the 1965 winter Rule V draft and they converted him back to a reliever, where he notched 15 saves. He later pitched for the Yankees and Cubs to complete his nine-year career. Overall, he posted a 36-51 record with 21 saves, 16 complete games and an ERA of 3.65.
Nottebart passed away on October 4th, 2007 in Houston at the age of 71.
