Tim Redding's shaky start this season continued with a 12-6 drubbing at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals at Astros Field. Redding allowed eight runs, including four homers, before being chased from the mound in the fourth inning.

The Astros sank to 9-6 -- and into a first-place tie with the Cubs -- while Redding dropped to 0-3.

The bullpen provided little relief when Ricky Stone got pounded for four additional runs in less than two innings of work. By the time the Astros found a pitcher who could get a Cardinal out, they were down 12-1 in the sixth inning.

There was very little on the bright side to tonight's game. Jeff Bagwell hit his fifth homer of the season and Mike Lamb hit his second while subbing for third baseman Morgan Ensberg.

The Astros complete their series with the Cardinals Thursday night, hoping to avoid being swept at home, when Roy Oswalt takes the mound against Jason Marquis.
